I have a Single Sided ST 3.5" Disk drive. Is there any way I can connect it to the 8-bit?? I have no pin-out data. Do I need to buy a Hard-Drive? Controller?

I'm posting your message in hope that anyone with more familiarity
with the ST drives will see it and possibly provide you with better solid
information. My guess is that your answer is no. Since you didn't say
what brand name the drive is I'm going to guess it's an Atari ST
drive. My guess is that the Atari ST drive is strictly for the ST machine
(it has a specific ST controller in it...) Of course if the actual drive
mechanism is perhaps a standard SCSI or SASI it could be hooked up with
a controller and an MIO or ATR 8000 or Bob Puff's device (which I haven't
heard that much on). If you're going to go to the trouble of buying
a SCSI or SASI controller and MIO you may as well spend the extra
$200 - $300 and buy a hard disk and case unit (which usually includes
the cooling fan and power supply). Another alternative, if the drive
mech is a standard IBM-style mech, is installing it into an XF551.
Documentation on doing this is floating around all over the place.
Might even be on my BBS. Ken at Part-Time successfully converted a
XF551 into a 3.5" drive....It's not hard from what I heard. I heard
the hardest part is finding someone with the Eprom and someone who will
burn you the Eprom for the drive....
