The rate of data transfer is
called "baud rate". If the larger
system is set up to receive modem calls
and your modem's baud rate is the same
as the rate on the larger system's
modem, they automatically work with
each other.
To talk with a friend by modem,
one of you has to have a terminal
program which includes an "answer mode".Leave us another question if you are
interested in this technique.
As a third possibility, if you are considering setting up a "larger
system" and want other people to call
you, your best bet is to buy a
Bulletin Board program. As of this
time most people I know like BBS Expressfor the Atari XL/XE line.
