From: ad024 Subject: HANDLERS Date: Sun Jul 30 09:22:04 1989 Could someone please tell me what a handler is and what it's purpose is? I'm having problems with one of my telecom programs. ** Answered by JOHN SUCHY (aa271) on Mon Jun 15 03:32:49 1987 ** A handler is a system-level program that tells your Atari computer how to talk to--"handle"--a specific input/output device. There are built- in handlers for the keyboard, monitor, and printer. There is also a "loader" for DOS--that is, a program that tells the computer how to get information from a disk to install a disk handler. Your specific problem is called an "R- handler". It must be loaded from disk, and tells the computer how to talk to serial devices like MODEMs. Most users' groups now have public domain R-handlers available to members, and some will also give them out to other interested people.. If you have trouble finding one, give me some personal mail. Your Co-sysop John E. Suchy aa271 Thanks for asking.
