From: ae501 Subject: SENDING TO XM301 MODEM Date: Sun Jul 30 09:32:58 1989 I WANTED TO KNOW HOW TO SEND LETTERS LIKE "G" WHICH WOULD MAKE THE XM301 GOIN AUTOANSWER MODE.I CAN OPEN THE PORT WITH NO PROBLEM AND I CAN TELL THAT IT IS OPENED BECAUSE WHEN I OPEN IT THE MODEM MAKES A SOUND THAT COMES OUT ON THE T.V. WHICH I CAN HEAR WHEN I USE 1030 EXPRESS.I WAS TOLD TO USE XIO COMMANDS BUT THE GUY DIDN'T KNOW WHICH ONES TO USE,AND HE TOLD ME TO CALL PHANTOM THEATRE I CANT GET A CONNECTION TO IT! IF YOU CAN HELP THIS WOULD VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY MUCH APPRITIATED!!! THANKS, RYAN WILKINS(AE501) ** Answered by JOHN SUCHY (aa271) on Tue Nov 3 23:42:20 1987 ** First, don't worry about what you are sending after you are on line; the modem probably ignores command characters unless dis-connected. Package programs, such as Express, are designed to avoid such problems if they exist at all. Second, if you are doing your own modem programming, you need to refer to an Atari Basic reference manual (Sams puts out a very good one)--or to "De Re Atari" for machine language (available from some mail order houses). The XIO commands are strictly BASIC; machine language is much trickier. Finally, don't depsair if any given BBS won't respond with your XM301 -- it works ONLY at 300 baud, which some boards now refuse to allow. If you can't get on TAP (228-7335) or FREE-NET (368-3888 for those who are using a friend's autodial), leave me a personal message at aa271. Good luck. Your Co-sysop John E. Suchy aa271 Thanks for asking.
