From: bb099@cleveland.Freenet.Edu (Adam Trent Phillips) Subject: The extra keys on the 1200xl.... Date: Sun May 17 16:55:27 1992 I recently bought a 1200xl computer. I know that many of you must be saying to yourself "What a Rube !". But please bear with me..... One thing, it has a better keyboard than my 800xl (my old 800 needs a new keyboard and perhaps another RAMboard....) and a good number of my programs run on it: Atariwriter (card+disk), Atariwriter+, Ansiterm, 800express for the sx212, Bobterm and many, many more.... But one thing that baffled me when I first saw what a 1200xl looked like, I wondered aloud "What are the keys 'F1-F4' for ? Well, here is a list of what they do.... F1=cursor up F2=cursor down F3=cursor left F4=cursor right F1+Control=Keyboard disable F2+Control=DMA/ screen disable * F3+Control=Turns "keyclick" on/off + F4+Control=Character set toggel (Graphix/International) *=this tells the computer to stop drawing screen and and dedicate time to actual calculation...like using location 559 ($22F)- seepage 44 of "Mapping the Atari" +=this feature works with many programs and BASIC. It is equal to using location 731 ($ ? )on an XL or XE cpmputer..... Note too, the 1200xl works grat with "basic XE". P.S. here is the truth table for the two L.E.D.s labeled "L1 and L2" L1: on=keyboard disabled off=keyboard enabled L2: on=international char. set off=graphix char.set Happy Hacking..... --WHITE ROOK -- A.
