From: aa700@cleveland.Freenet.Edu (Michael Current) Subject: Kraft MazeMaster (joystick) / hardware Date: Wed Dec 4 16:25:16 1991 Reprinted from comp.sys.atari.8bit Written by Ben Poehland (poehland%phvax.dnet@SMITHKLINE.COM) For whoever uit was that was taking the survey of what joysticks people use, heres my 2-cents. Some years ago I went thru 4 or 5 different types of joysticks, including the ones from Atari. What I finally settled on was the Kraft MazeMaster. This is a very modest-looking little thing about 3.5" square. The stick itself is rather thin (about 1/4" dia.) & stubby: maybe 3" long. Stick action is center-return spring-loaded with a good feel: you can sense the positions of the internal switches as you rotate the stick. Earlier production models were black with handsome gold lettering & a single red firebutton. Later models are Commodore puke-brown with 2 firebutons & a switch underneath that lets you change between 4 or 8 positions. I have 3 of these sticks, one old one & two later types. One of the firebuttons on one of the later units sticks, bummer. Old units are made in USA, newer ones in Hong Kong (seems about right, we Americans don't make our own stuff any more, we just buy everyone elses crap). I like these sticks because of their precision feel, fairly easy to place the cursor exactly where you want it on the screen with graphic programs, etc. I can't say how good they are for games since I'm an old fart & am lousy at most games even with a good stick. I like the small size & good feel of the stick, I often manipulate the stick using only a thumb. - BEN POEHLAND Always the Alchemist Still Officially 8-Bit Editor of Current Notes til the end of the year ******************************************************************************* -- Michael Current, Cleveland Free-Net 8-bit Atari SIGOp -->> go atari8 <<-- The Cleveland Free-Net Atari SIG is the Central Atari Information Network Internet: currentm@carleton.edu / UUCP: ...!umn-cs!ccnfld!currentm BITNET: currentm%carleton.edu@interbit / Cleveland Free-Net: aa700
