From: MHz <mhz@earthlink.net>
Subject: Atari Underground update. 3-8-97

Well kids we got some good news, and we got some bad news.

1st: the good news. Mark "Stingray" Santora is a playtester for 4plays
Battlesphere game and he just posted a new report on the game. you can check
it out at this url:
http://home.earthlink.net/~santora/playtstb.html

2nd: (and here is the bad news) Iron Soldier 2 has been DELAYED. YUCK!!!!
here is the official statement from Telegames.

"Iron Soldier 2 Delayed

The projected release date of Iron Soldier 2 (CD) for Jaguar has been
delayed due
to a CD replication problem. Although Atari's "officially" licensed
replicator has
had the gold masters of IS2 since February 20th , they have been unable to
create
problem free glass masters that are required for mass production. Their problems
are partly related to the sophisticated security encription on the Jag CDs.
Engineers
have been working furiously since the masters were delivered to fully
resolve the
problems. We will update our web site as more info becomes available. Please do
not send individual e-mail inquiries asking about the status."

Well aint that a pisser, BUT we had lots of games delayed by Atari, so we
should be use to this. At least Telegames posted a reason why its delayed
wich i think is very nice of them to do.

Well thats all i have for now.

Atari Underground update 3-30-97

First you might want to check this out, its a new creation called the
Atari Preservation Society.(APS) I could tell you all about it, but I would
rather have you visit Wes Powell's Jagu-Dome and have a look 4 yourself

http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Park/jagu-dome.html

-----------------------
This /msg is from the the Jag-Fest folks. If your going please
read this.

*NOTE: It is required that if you need a room reserved for you for Jag
Fest, that you send in a postcard!*

Send a Postcard Today!

Attention all Jag Fest '97 party goers! It has proven to be somewhat
difficult for me to secure a place for our meeting. To help remedy this,
I ask that you send me some information to me via SNAIL MAIL!

Hardcopy information I can keep and file and be happy about, electronic
I can lose when my next HD crash occurs...

My big problem is that I know we all would like to go, and have a good
time, but I don't know how many of you will be needing a place to stay.
I don't really know how much you are expecting to spend, what you plan
to bring (if anything), if you plan to show up early or would like to
stay late and help clean up.

I don't know if you want to donate anything, be it ideas, food, luck,
posters, artwork, whatever. Remember, a big undecorated room is ugly to
look at. Besides, you'll become rich and famous like me (ever heard of
me before this event? :-Q ) when we credit you for your contributions.

As of now, this is the information I will need:

First and Last Name: (so I know who you are)

AGE: (I hate to ask... but there are curfew laws and hotel regulations
we must take into account. If you are way too young and coming alone,
we'll try to pair you up with someone, but your parents will be
convinced all internet geeks are axe murders, anyway..)

Mailing Address: (incase I need to mail you for whatever reason)

Daytime/Evening phone numbers: (In case I need to contact you regarding
hotel/motel rooms/pricing etc. The hotel will also need this if they
need to contact you in case of reservation problems).

E-mail Address: (So I can e-mail you with updates)

WHO IS COMING WITH YOU: (Wouldn't it be great if I requested a bunch of
single rooms and
your group of 12 drinking buddies come along with the intention of all
staying in the same room? This will allow me to have a fair idea of how
large of a room we each need. Prices will vary accordingly due to room
size.)

What can you bring?: (Tell me you are bringing something. I don't care
if its a thank-you card. Acceptable items are listed on Chad's page)

Are you willing to send a deposit on your room, if need be?: (I will try
not to handle the money and have it go straight to the hotel if this
comes to light, but I can't promise)

Who can we contact in case of an emergency? (If you suddenly die, we
can't throw you away)

Finally, what comments, suggestions do you have?: (There's still so much
to do, there's still time for one person to make a difference!)

Here is an example of how I would fill out my own request:

NAME: Jeff Grimshaw

AGE: 21

ADDRESS: PO Box 958542
Hoffman Estates, IL 60195-8542

Daytime/Evening phone numbers: 630-227-3711/630-374-6806
(You could call them and stalk me if you want, but.. if I'm dead I won't
be of any use. The numbers are for work so don't get excited)

EMAIL ADDRESS: Gorgonzola@earthlink.net

WHO IS COMING WITH ME: As of now, three friends. Should that change,
I'll notify myself
immediately..

WHAT CAN I BRING: I'll be bringing along a Jaguar and a Catbox. Assuming
(we pray) that
Battlesphere is out by then, I'll bring that too. My friends will be
contributing to decor and helping me set things up.

WILL I BE MAKING A DEPOSIT ON THE ROOM?: Chances are, I won't need a
room since I
live in the area. My friends are the same way. However, I may stay due
to the fact that I am heading up the event. If this occurs I will make a
memo with my room and the room's phone number and make sure everyone
gets it in case of a problem.

Who can we contact in case of an emergency?: Since I live in the area,
my friends coming along will take care of my corpse disposal. Or
something.

Finally, what comments or suggestions do I have?: Carry me around and
call me the grand pubah. I suggest that everyone have a damn good time
or my name isn't Hyperturtle!

I'd super-prefer it if you did not e-mail me this information. But if
you must, my email address is:
Gorgonzola@earthlink.net ...

Please use the same format as listed above, and title the message "Jag
Fest Applicant Information"

All people who register with me will be getting E-Mail shortly
thereafter. I will try to keep everyone posted in a timely manner as to
current events and developments. If you would like to send me artwork/
posters/ etc, please forewarn me, so that I will be sure to check the PO
Box more often.

The PO Box's address, incidentally, is:

The Swedish Atari Club (SAK) 970104
and NoCrew proudly present...

----------------------------------------------
T H E N O R D I C A T A R I S H O W '97
----------------------------------------------

Dear Atari friends,

It's once again time for the Nordic Atari Show, the annual get together
which has rapidly become a fixture for all Atari users.

Third time lucky, so they say, and as we are arrange the show for the
third straight year we hope to fulfill everyone's expectations and that
this will result in the best possible atmosphere. We've gotten a certain
amount of criticism, both positive and negative, from those who have
attended the shows in '95 and '96. We've taken heed of the suggestions
made and we're once again off and running!

- WHEN AND WHERE?

This year the show will begin on Friday, June 13 and end on Sunday,
June 15. This is the weekend following the beginning of the summer school
holidays as well as the weekend prior to the Swedish Midsummer
celebrations. We'll open at 1 p.m. on the Friday and close at 6 p.m. on
the Sunday.

The show will take place in Gothenburg, just has it has in previous
years. The exact venue has not yet been established. We're still looking
for the cheapest location. The likeliest possibility is Kortedala
gymnasium, where it was held last year or some other venue, nearby.

- WHAT ACTIVITIES WILL BE HELD?

* There will be an Exhibition Hall will dealers, distributors, ShareWare
programmers and a host of other interesting personalities. The usual
meeting place for all those not wanting to "hack". This is also where
the Swedish Atari Club will be found supplying information, sale of
PD-disks, the club magazine's TT, the BBS, etc. We'll also have an area
reserved for a swap meet where you can buy, swap or sell single copies
of Atari related material and a "soldering corner" for those of you
  wishing simple repairs done.

* A "Hacker Hall" where demo and other programmers can gather for
competitions and swap demos and all kinds of code. NoCrew is the
Swedish demo group who will see to it that everybody takes part and
enjoys themselves. Those of you hungry after rewards in the form of
prizes will be well taken care of. Exactly WHAT prizes these will be
  hasn't been established, as yet.

* Seminars with a number of well-informed lecturers. Last years seminars
were very much appreciated, something of which we naturally have taken
notice. The seminars will cover a variety of subjects (i.e. MIDI
ercording/editing, DTP, hardware, programming) where the above mentioned
"well-informed lecturers" will demonstrate his subject directly on a
computer in order to provide the audience with practical examples. We'll
also hold the seminars on different days and at varying times so that
you won't have to miss the chance if you don't attend on a particular
  day.

* Minor competitions such as "A-Z on the Keyboard" (a much appreciated
contest last year), hard disk throwing (this year we WILL succeed!),
network games, juggling, etc. Everything depends on our finding
volunteers to act as game leaders and judges. There will be prizes
  for the winners.

* A refreshment stand will sell non-alcoholic drinks, sweets, chips,
etc. We may be able to arrange quantity discounts at the local pizzeria
  as well as other bonuses.

- WHAT WILL IT COST?

If you intend to attend all three days, you cheapest solution is the
Three Day Pass otherwise a Single Entry ticket will do:

* Three Day Pass ... SEK 100:- (about UKP 8.50)
*  Single Entry ..... SEK  50:-

These prices include full access to all the activities being held during
NAS97.

- WHY SHOULD I ATTEND NAS?

The answer is simple: because you care about the TOS platform. We Atari
owners are becoming fewer and fewer and a get-together like NAS is a
simple way of seeing what's happening in the Atari world (no, it's not
dead!) and meeting like-minded Atarians and hearing what kind of tips,
ideas and visions they have.

- HOW CAN I FIND OUT MORE?

Information will be distributed regularly in the same way as this text
file. In addition, we have a number of other sources of information
where you can find out more about the show depending on your own resources.

* Our mailing list (E-mail). This will provide the very latest information
to those on the list. To have yourself put on the list you MUST have an
E-mail address. Send us a message on "nas-users-request@tripnet.se" with
"subscribe nas-users" in the body of the text. Don't forget to include
  your E-mail address.

* Our home page on the World Wide Web. This has been in existence since
last year and we'll try to update it as often as the information for the
mailing list. The home page will contain more detailed information
concerning times, schedule of events, directions on how to get there,
  competitions and housing.

  The address is "www.tripnet..se/sak/nas".

* STraight BBS. This is the Swedish Atari Club's home BBS. Information
concerning NAS will be included in the SAK menu. You can also use this
BBS to ask any questions you may have. The telephone number is:
  +46 31-336 39 73.

* Our club magazine, "AtariMagasinet", will contain adverts with more
detailed information concerning NAS97 in issues 1/97 and 2/97. This is
the largest mailshot we will send to our (SAK's) members.

* Our show co-ordinator is Rolf Johansson. He's supposed to know everyting
there is to know about NAS97. If you have questions to which you've been
unable to get answers anywhere else you can send him a message at
"rojo@tripnet.se" and you'll get your answers. If you wish to get into
direct contact with him, he can be reached on his mobile 'phone on
  +46 70-669 52 35.

WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOU AT THE NORDIC ATARI SHOW 1997!

Subject: POKEYSND 2.0 Released
Date: 12 Apr 1997 20:39:38 GMT

From: Ron Fries <rfries@tcmail.frco.com>
Date: Friday, March 14, 1997 5:41 PM

I finally have the 2.0 release of the POKEYSND routines available for
download. The address is shown below.

The new routines now support up to 4 chips. I've also changed the sound
blaster drivers to be a bit more generic. They sound routines should
now work on most (if not all) sound cards. The sound blaster driver
routines are also available to be downloaded and can be used
separately.

For examples on what the POKEYSND 2.0 can do, check out the following:

   EMU2.0 - by Neil Bradley
      http://www.synthcom.com/~emu
      Classic Arcade Emulator that supports:
Asteroids, Asteroids Deluxe, BattleZone, Black Widow, Gravitar
Lunar Lander, Red Baron, Space Duel, Space Invaders

   XL-IT! 0.18 - by Markus Geitzen
      http://myst.slcc.edu/~markus
      Atari 800XL/XE 8-bit computer emulator

VSS 0.70 - by Dan Boris
      http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/9461/emulate.htm
      Atari 5200 game console emulator

All excellent work! I've greatly appreciated the support, especially
from Neil Bradley who has provided some excellent testing support.
Thanks again Neil!

Article 519 of freenet.sci.comp.atari.news:
From: aa700@cleveland.Freenet.Edu (Michael Current)
Subject: Uploaded: Atari800-0.6.2.tar.gz (Unix/Amiga/DOS)
Date: 12 Apr 1997 20:47:48 GMT

From: "David J. Firth" <david@signus.demon.co.uk>
Date: Sunday, March 23, 1997 9:31 AM

I've just uploaded the latest version of the Atari800 Emulator to my
web site:-

http://www.signus.demon.co.uk/david/index.html

The emulator comes as source code for all versions or as an MS-DOS
binary. Sorry but I haven't got round to producing a new Amiga binary
yet!

Changes in 0.6.2
----------------

o Antic Modes 2, 3 and f now display the normal Atari Colour and
Luminance by default. Extended Antic Modes 2, 3 and f are enabled
by starting the emulator with the "-xcolpf1" command line option.
This allows two completely different colours to be displayed in
  these modes - as previously.

o Improved Run-Time Configuration. Starting emulator with the
"-configure" command line option allows configuration of several
  items:-

     1. Location of OS Roms
     2. Default Directory for Disk Images
     3. Default Directory for ROM Images
     4. Default Directory for H1, H2, H3 and H4 pseudo devices
     5. Command Print File (for Printer Support)
     6. Default Screen Refresh Ratio
     7. Default Startup System (OS/A, OS/B, XL, XE, 5200)
     8. Default TV Mode (PAL, NTSC)
     9. Hold Option during Coldstart
    10. Enable C000-CFFF RAM in Atari 800 mode
    11. Enable SIO Patch
    12. Enable FFP Patch
    13. Enable Extended COLPF1 (Two true colours in Antic Modes 2, 3 &
F)

The emulator writes a file called "atari800.cfg" in your default
directory. When reading the configuration the emulator first checks
to see if you've specified a configuration on the command line with
the "-config" option otherwise it first tries to read a configuration
file from your default directory, failing this it then tries to read
  a configuration file from "/etc/atari800.cfg".

o JoyMouse for Toshiba Portables running SVGALIB - Probably also
suitable for Trackball devices with minor modifications.

All,
Just a quick announcement that on April 26 and 27, there will be a huge
computer/ham fest at Mercer Count Community College West Winsor, NJ (Just
east of Trenton, NJ) This is the largest/ longest running computer fest on
the US East Coast! There will be over 1000 outdoor vendor spots, over 400
indoor vendor spaces, over 100 seminars/forums/talks, Internet for kids, a
Festival Dinner with almost everyone leaving with a door prize(once I won a
2x ISA CD-ROM drive) and much much more.

I will be hosting an Atari 8-bit seminar on Sunday afternoon. The
discussion will include PCXformer 3.6, The Internet and BBSes. Come, and
find those hard to fine 8-bit deals in the flea market. Last year I found
a fully functioning 130XE w/PS and SIO cable for $5.00. Not too ban. A
couple of years back I bought an 800XL, XF551 and 1050, all w/PS and cables
for $27.00. There are lots of sellers that have 8-bit treasures, not to
mention all the other neat items old and new.

That's Saturday April 26 10am to 6 pm and Sunday April 27, 1997 10am to
4pm. Admission is $10.00 for both days (adults) $5.00 sunday only, Seniors
and students $5.00 for both days and Children under 12 are admitted free on
sunday (if accompanied by an adult). Pre-schoolers are always admitted
free.

From: "David J. Firth" <david@signus.demon.co.uk>

I've just uploaded the latest version of the Atari800 Emulator to my
web site:-

http://www.signus.demon.co.uk/david/index.html

The emulator comes as source code for all versions or as an MS-DOS
binary. Sorry but I haven't got round to producing a new Amiga binary
yet!

Changes in 0.7.0
----------------

o F1 enters Menu System at any time. ESC returns you to the previous
screen. Items are lcoated using the cursor keys and selected by
either RETURN, SPACE, TAB or BACKSPACE. In most cases these keys
can be used interchangeably, the exception is in the Disk Management
Screen where RETURN is used to select a new disk and SPACE, TAB and
BACKSPACE are used to eject a disk - If there is no disk in the
virtual drive then SPACE, TAB and BACKSPACE will switch the drive
  off (Useful for Shamus).

o X11, SVGALIB & DOS - F5 is now Warmstart and Shift F5 is Coldstart.

o X11 - F8 Single Shot Screen Dump, Shift F8 continuous Screen Dumps.

o MS-DOS version runs about three times quicker now that the emulator is
synchronising with a high resolution timer.

o MS-DOS version resets the screen back to text mode when finished.

XL-it! 0.20 is ready for downloading:

        http://myst.slcc.edu/~markus

This version has been released because I was very excited by the
work that Alan Reeve did: he found out why Borderbund Titles didn't
work (please use Atari800-mode for Karateka).

Furthermore the color-artifacting support and the PC-joystick handling
have been improved.

Have fun,

PS: Due to an important commercial project I can't work on XL-it!
as much as before but I don't drop it...

Date: 2 Jun 1997 14:08:36 GMT

Our 9th Mid-Indiana MIST AtariFest is all set again for July 26, the last
Saturday in July, and we hope you can be here again in Indianapolis.

More details are coming, but we are cutting costs and cutting fees,
and there's a new location:

Post Road Community Center ... it's in a park setting at 1313 South Post
Road, on the EAST SIDE of Indianapolis. It's on a suburban road about
halfway between Interstate 70 and Interstate 74. Not hard to reach, not
hard to find -- but NOT the Best Western Hotel this time.

Jeff Hammer will be doing Internet mail on the MIST 'Fest along with
Charlie Sears (csears@ideanet.doe.state.in.us) and me. Jeff will shortly
get you more details with a map and a list of places to stay in the area,
and Charlie will be sending the contracts for table space as in the past.

Pass the word along to anyone you know with interest in Atari.

Write it down on your calendar now ... July 26 for MIST in Indianapolis.
Bring friends.

Mid-Indiana ST AtariFest IX is all signed to get
its 9th annual event under way by 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at the
Post Road Community Center on the east side of Indianapolis.

The location is not hard to find, but it's not really close to any
interstate highway. Best way is to take the Post Road exit off either
I-70 or I-74. From I-70, you drive south a couple miles on Post Road.
>From I-74, you drive north even farther on Post Road.

Tell your friends: No. 9 is on for sure! The biggest and best MIST yet!

The location is well marked at 1313 South Post Road in a park-like
setting, standing well back off the road at least 100 yards.

We'll have at least 30 3x8-foot tables available. There are no
extra charges for electricity - vendors, be sure to bring extension cords
and
and outlet strips.

The space is about the same as available in the main ballroom in the past,
but the ceiling is much higher and the whole atmosphere is more open.

More updates will follow as soon as we get them.

See you there!

Subject: Atari800-0.8.0.tar.gz with Ron Fries Pokey Sound (Linux)
Date: 10 Jun 1997 20:59:48 GMT

From: "David J. Firth" <david@signus.demon.co.uk>
Date: Sat, 19 Apr 1997 01:34:28 +0100

I've just uploaded the latest version of Atari800 to my web site. The
emulator comes as source code for Linux/Unix and as an executable for
MS-DOS. The Linux version has sound support using Ron Fries Pokey Sound
Emulation library via /dev/dsp. It should be possible to use sound on
other Unix system if /dev/dsp is replaced by /dev/audio.

Atari800-0.8.0.tar.gz can be obtained from the following site:-

http://www.signus.demon.co.uk/david/

Changes in 0.8.0
----------------

o Added Ron Fries Pokey Emulation routines for sound in Linux.
A million thanks to Ron for releasing these routines - I've
put off using sound for ages but it took less than an evening
to add sound using these routines :-)

Sound is setup for Linux using /dev/dsp but it also seems to
produce something using /dev/audio, which leads me to believe
that it should work on most Unix boxes with a little work.
  Patches welcomed :-)

In order to support sound I've added a few new command line
  options:-

-sound and -nosound do what you'd expect.

-dsp_divisor takes a decimal value which alters the quality of
the sound output. It is used to work out how much
sound should be created each time the screen is
refreshed. Ideally it should be 50 (PAL) or 60 (NTSC)
but I've found that the best value to use is about
5 less than the emulators screen refresh rate WITH
SOUND DISABLED. If the values is to high you will
get gaps in the sound. If the value is to low the
emulator will run slower than it should.

I strongly suggest you experiment with this parameter
in order to get both the best sound and performance.

o Support for an Experimental New Cartridge Format - with the use of
OSS Super Cartridges there is no way of automatically
distinguishing standard 16K cartridges from the various Super
Cartridges. Hopefully this format will do for cartridges what ATR
files did for disk images. Feedback and view would be welcomed
especially from the other Emulator Authors.

  The current format is :-

  first 4 bytes containing 'C' 'A' 'R' 'T'.
next 4 bytes containing cartridge type in MSB format.

    Type 1 - Standard 8K Cartridge
    Type 2 - Standard 16K Cartridge
Type 3 - OSS Super Cartridge (I heard rumours that there are two
             different types of OSS Cartridges)
    Type 4 - Atari 5200 Cartridge

Note: There is probably a case for extra cartridge types
indicating the system that needs to be emulated.
          e.g. Standard 8K Cartridge (800 Mode Only).

next 4 bytes containing cartridge checksum in MSB format (ROM only).
next 4 bytes are currently unused.
followed immediately with the ROM data, typically 8, 16 or 32K.

In the next version I'm intending on adding:-
    32 bytes for Cartridge Name
32 bytes for Cartridge Serial Number
    32 bytes for Manufacturer

The current version of the emulator includes options in the
Cartridge Management screen to Create Cartridges in the above
format but be warned this format is likely to change.

Changes in 0.7.1
----------------

o Note: I now consider the new Menu System that runs in the Emulated
Atari's window to be the prefered User Interface. I have no
intention of doing any further development for XVIEW

o Cartridge Management added to Menu.

o Removed FFP Code.

Article 530 of freenet.sci.comp.atari.news:

Subject: News from the land of APE.
Date: 16 Jun 1997 20:15:31 GMT

From: ai123@FreeNet.Carleton.CA (Steven J. Tucker)
Subject: News from the land of APE.
Date: 28 Apr 1997 07:52:48 GMT

Hi everyone,

I've sort of been too busy to work on APE alot for the last
few months, and to compute much in general. I apologize to the people
who are waiting for e-mail, updates, etc. All pending stuff will be
 taken care of soon :)

I had a few hours of free time for the past few days and I
decided to write some stuff people have been requesting for a long
 time.

The most exciting thing is the new APE loader. Its a really cool
boot loader/menu program you start by booting from the PC mirror.

The boot loader is still rough, and will change some, but the
following things are done right now and will show up in 1.15 for registered
 users:

        a. boot loads directly from the pc mirror
        b. totally menu driven, no need to ever type filenames
        c. 100% compatible w/ warp+ os for screamin load times
        d. reads files directly off the pc mirror, disk images not required
        e. traverse drives and subdirectories visually from menu
        f. can handle upto 3000 files/subdirectories per directory
(all of jellystone is less than 1500 exe files)
        g. total control from the atari keyboard, no need to ever go
to the pc. load file, work subdirectories and drives, etc.
        h. zoom to files by starting letters, makes locating any file just
1-2 keystrokes away, even w/ all 1100 jellystone exe files
            in the same directory.
        i. two stage menu/loader design for tiny memory footprint. Loader
stage is less than 100 bytes and can be relocated by ape anywhere
in atari memory, can even be concealed within the high stack.
        j. loads everything that does not smash the loader, and even loads
those files since the loader can be relocated ;) (on menu)
        k. works regardless of memory size, cart status, or machine type.
        l. displays 36 files/directories per screen, plus menu lines. Already
working on an 18 files + long filenames version.

There is some other stuff i think, but i'm really tired now so that will
have to do till I have time to write a better description.

Eventually the loader will become a subfunction of a larger program
that will allow for total control of APE from the atari. The framework
API is in place so adding it will be pretty easy.

Anyone with ideas for features on the menu program or the control program
let me know. :) Also I need a few registered users who are really interested
in putting in some time beta testing 1.15, mostly the menu. I really
need someone who can spend some time with it and send me bugs,
comments, etc. Please e-mail if you want to work ;)

For everyone else 1.15 will be out soon, really! :) I know I promised 1.12
for months, but I just didn't ever have time to commit to working out
it's issues till the last few days.

Thanks for your patience everyone.

Steve

ps. If any of you know of 'problem' executable files that dont seem to work
with any/most of the disk bootloaders please let me know the filename, I
would like to try them out directly. (i just cant try all 1100 files
 in jellystone :)

pps. how do I generate a different background color on each line of text?
Kind of like Alternate Reality does? I know it involves DLI's but its been
awhile since I did any stuff like that.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Atari friends,

It's once again time for the Nordic Atari Show, the annual get together
which has rapidly become a fixture for all Atari users.

Third time lucky, so they say, and as we arrange the show for the
third straight year we hope to fulfill everyone's expectations and that
this will result in the best possible atmosphere. We've gotten a certain
amount of criticism, both positive and negative, from those who have
attended the shows in '95 and '96. We've taken heed of the suggestions
made and we're once again off and running!

1 - WHEN AND WHERE?

This year the show will begin on Friday, June 13 and end on Sunday,
June 15. This is the weekend following the beginning of the summer school
holidays as well as the weekend prior to the Swedish Midsummer
celebrations. We'll open at 12 p.m. on Friday and close at 6 p.m. on
Sunday.

NAS97 will be held at a school called LUNDBY GYMNASIUM at HISINGEN,
GOTHENBURG. Hisingen is a large island very close to the main parts of
Gothenburg. There are a lot of local transportations there.

A map for the route description can be found at www.tripnet.se/sak/nas

GOING BY TRAIN
The train arrives at Centralstationen. Take tram 2 (destination
Biskopsgarden) at Nordstaden and get off at the stop Rambergsvallen.
Signs will lead your way to LUNDBY GYMNASIUM.

GOING BY BOAT
Boats arrive near the tram stop Masthuggstorget. Take tram 3, 4 or 9 to
Brunnsparken, then change to tram 2 (destination Biskopsgarden) or 5
(destination Lansmansgarden) and stop at Rambergsvallen. Signs will lead
your way.

GOING BY PLANE
Take the airport bus to Centralstationen. Follow the instructions as under
"going by train".

GOING BY CAR
Please have a look at the map, LUNDBY GYMNASIUM is nearby a large road
and should not be hard to find.

2 - WHAT WILL IT COST?

If you intend to attend all three days, you cheapest solution is the
Three Day Pass otherwise a Single Entry ticket will do:

* Three Day Pass ... SEK 150:- (about UKP 12,75)
*  Single Entry ..... SEK  80:-

These prices include full access to all the activities being held during
NAS97.

3 - EXHIBITION

The exhibition hall is open:
Friday 12-18, Saturday 11-20 and Sunday 11-18.

At the exhibition you can see:

DISK1 (Sweden)
Will be showing Jaguar games and other fun stuff for Atari.

Daggskimmer/Tom Thomason (Sweden)
Bo Leuf and Tom Thomason will be demonstrating Papyrus, Interface and other
shareware products. Tom will also be handling registrations for those.

Peter Segerdahl
One of the authors of Zero-X, the fantastic sample editing program,
shows how to use Zero-X the best way.

Thorsten Butschke (Germany)
As last year, Thorsten is here and showing and taking registrations for
shareware products and the magazine Atari Computing.

16/32 systems (England)
Nic Harlow has always been at NAS, so why any different this year?
He's showing CD:s for Atari, games and more.

Line Audio
Roger J?nsson shows the different JAM products and more for the musican.

SAK and SAK/Skane
The Swedish Atari Users' Association and the local department in Skane are
here too, to show different programs and computer systems in action. SAK
will sell T-shirts, PD-disks, have a soldering corner and a swap meeting
too for those who whises to sell, buy or trade single items of interest.

4 - HACKER CONVENTION

Demogroups and other programmers can gather for competitions and
swap demos and all kinds of code. NoCrew is the Swedish demo group
who will see to it that everybody takes part and enjoy themselves.
Those of you hungry after rewards in the form of prizes will be well
taken care of. Exactly WHAT prizes these will be hasn't been
  established, as yet.

  These are the competitions:
  Wild compo
  Unlimited demo compo

More detailed information will be sent out to all demogroups by NoCrew.
You can also make contact directly to them at their homepage at
  www.nocrew.pp.se

5 - SEMINARS

Last years seminars were very much appreciated, something of which we
  naturally have taken notice.

The SEMINARS will be held from 12 p.m. on Saturday and hopefully
some of them even on Friday or Sunday. But - please attend on Saturday if
you don't want to miss any of them.

  - Peter Rottengatter
  - About STiNG and Internet
Peter is the author of STiNG (the follow-up to STiK), and he will
talk about installation and practical use of this program, plus some
general talk about Internet and software for Atari.

  - Martin Graiter
  - Hardware seminar
Martin is a hardware specialist with long practical experience repairing
  and servicing Atari computers.

  - Mille Babic
  - HTML and Internet access
Mille will talk about HTML, and show how this cryptical language
really works. He also gives a lesson about going through the net,
  practically, with you Atari.

  - Claes Holmerup
  - The hardware behind digital recording
Claes was here last year also, and talked about digital mastering.
Now he shows a bit more about all that hardware that's required
to make a digital recordning. Claes will also show how CD burning
can be done with an Atari computer.

  - Rolf Johansson
  - Layout with Calamus SL
What is Calamus SL, and how can one use it? Rolf shows how the
club magazine is done, special functions and regulars in
the software plus a bit about the new version SL96.

  - Ulf Hogberg, Rolf Johansson and others
  - General Atari Questions
We will also have a little "chat" seminar where you can ask questions
about everything - and we'll try to answer them. Maybe this also
can become some form of a debate, we don't know right now. Please
attend, as we might need you help.

6 - MORE ACTIVITIES

* Minor competitions such as "A-Z on the Keyboard" (a much appreciated
contest last year), hard disk throwing (this year it WILL happen!),
network games, juggling, etc. Everything depends on our finding
volunteers to act as game leaders and referees. There will be prizes
  for the winners.

* A refreshment stand will sell non-alcoholic drinks, sweets, chips,
etc. We CAN arrange quantity discounts at the local pizzeria, and
  will take orders for this.

* Internet cafe, with possibilities to surf on the Internet, chat,
telnet or whatever that is legal. The cafe will be nearby the
"normal" cafe, or refreshment stand as written above.

7 - GENERAL RULES AT THE SHOW

* No smoking inside the building or by windows and doors.

* No alcohol, beer or anything like drugs will be tolerated inside
the show. Please have fun with that outside in the city, but not
at NAS97. All such things found will be confiscated.

* Keep a good attitude against other people and show your tickets
to the staff if asked for it.

Anyone breaking these rules or acting violently will be thrown
out of the show.

8 - WHY SHOULD I ATTEND NAS?

The answer is simple: because you care about the TOS platform. We Atari
owners are becoming fewer and fewer and a get-together like NAS is a
simple way of seeing what's happening in the Atari world (no, it's not
dead!) and meeting like-minded Atarians and hearing what kind of tips,
ideas and visions they have.

9 - HOW CAN I FIND OUT MORE?

Information will be distributed regularly in the same way as this text
file. In addition, we have a number of other sources of information
where you can find out more about the show depending on your own resources.

* Our mailing list (e-mail). This will provide the very latest information
to those on the list. To have yourself put on the list you MUST have an
e-mail address. Send us a message on "nas-users-request@tripnet.se" with
"subscribe nas-users" in the body of the text. Don't forget to include
  your e-mail address.

* Our home page on the World Wide Web. This has been in existence since
last year and we'll try to update it as often as the information for the
mailing list. The home page will contain more detailed information
concerning times, schedule of events, directions on how to get there,
  competitions and housing.

  The address is "www.tripnet.se/sak/nas".

He's supposed to know everything
there is to know about NAS97. If you have questions to which you've been
unable to get answers anywhere else you can send him a message at
"rojo@tripnet.se" and you'll get your answers. If you wish to get into
direct contact with him, he can be reached on his mobile phone on
  +46 70-669 52 35.

  KEEP THE TOS PLATFORM ALIVE.
WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO SEE YOU AT THE NORDIC ATARI SHOW 1997!
